Wood County Schools Discuss Year-Round Technology Support

The Wood County Schools Board of Education recently discussed its technology support services. Members considered providing year-round assistance. This move aims to help students and staff more effectively. The goal is to enhance digital learning environments.

Current Technology Infrastructure and Staffing

Wood County Schools currently manages a significant technology infrastructure. Jeremy Groves, Director of Technology, informed the board. The district supports around 13,000 devices. These include laptops, tablets, and other tools. Devices are used by both students and staff. A team of ten IT professionals currently provides support. This team works across all schools.

The current IT staff handles various crucial tasks. They manage network infrastructure. They also oversee software systems. Device maintenance is a constant requirement. Cybersecurity measures are also a priority. These efforts ensure smooth daily operations.

Meeting Growing Needs for Digital Learning

Mr. Groves emphasized the increasing demand for technology support. Support is needed beyond traditional school hours. It is also vital during school breaks. Students, staff, and families often require help. This need extends throughout the summer months. The modern educational landscape relies heavily on digital tools. Therefore, continuous access and assistance are crucial.

Extending support services offers several benefits. It can reduce downtime for devices. It also ensures quicker problem resolution. This continuous availability promotes better learning. It also supports teaching continuity.

Professional Development and Training

Kiki Grinstead, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment, also spoke. She highlighted the importance of professional development. Teachers need ongoing training. This helps them effectively integrate technology into lessons. Continuous support ensures educators can maximize digital tools. This directly impacts student engagement and outcomes.

Support for staff is essential. It helps them troubleshoot common issues. It also allows them to explore new educational software. Well-trained staff can better leverage technology. This improves the overall learning experience for students.

Future Considerations for the Board

The discussion provided important information to the board. Members explored the feasibility of expanding services. They considered potential staffing adjustments. Funding requirements were also part of the conversation. No immediate decisions were made during the session. However, the board acknowledged the growing need for enhanced technology support.
