Local Sports Roundup: October 1, 2025
Here’s a look at the latest sports news from our local teams. Several exciting games took place yesterday, September 30th. Read on for scores and highlights.
High School Football
The Centerville High Eagles defeated the Northwood Spartans 28-14. Centerville’s quarterback, Jake Miller, threw for three touchdowns. He also rushed for another. Northwood struggled to contain Centerville’s offense. However, they showed resilience in the second half. The Eagles are now 5-1 on the season. The Spartans fall to 3-3.
Girls’ Soccer
The Southview Cougars shut out the Westbridge Wildcats 3-0. Sarah Johnson scored two goals for the Cougars. Goalie Emily Carter recorded her fifth shutout of the season. Westbridge had several scoring opportunities. However, Carter proved too difficult to beat. Southview remains undefeated at 6-0. Westbridge is now 4-2.
Boys’ Soccer
A thrilling match between the Riverside Rams and the Eastlake Titans ended in a 2-2 draw. Both teams displayed strong offensive and defensive skills. Riverside’s forward, Michael Davis, scored a late goal to tie the game. Eastlake’s goalkeeper, Kevin O’Connell, made several key saves. The Rams are now 4-1-1. The Titans are 3-2-1.
Volleyball
The Maplewood Mustangs swept the Oakwood Owls in three sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-22). Maplewood’s strong serving and consistent hitting proved too much for Oakwood. Mustangs’ outside hitter, Jessica Brown, led the team with 15 kills. Oakwood fought hard. However, Maplewood maintained control throughout the match. Maplewood improves to 7-2. Oakwood drops to 2-7.
