Cottage Cheese Sold at Walmart Recalled Amid *Salmonella* Concerns

Fresh Food Concepts, Inc. has announced a voluntary recall. This recall affects specific cottage cheese products. These items were sold under the Great Value and Fresh & Finest brands. They were available at Walmart stores nationwide. The recall spans 24 U.S. states. The reason for this action is potential contamination with *Salmonella* bacteria.

Recall Details and Affected Products

The recalled products include several varieties of cottage cheese. These were distributed by Fresh Food Concepts. They were sold primarily at Walmart locations. The affected states are Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.

Consumers should check for the following specific products:

  • Great Value 24 oz. Fat Free Small Curd Cottage Cheese (UPC: 0078742147530, Best By: 1/17/2024)
  • Great Value 16 oz. Small Curd 4% Milkfat Cottage Cheese (UPC: 0078742147578, Best By: 1/17/2024)
  • Great Value 24 oz. Small Curd 4% Milkfat Cottage Cheese (UPC: 0078742147592, Best By: 1/17/2024)
  • Fresh & Finest 32 oz. Cottage Cheese 4% Milkfat (UPC: 0078742147608, Best By: 1/17/2024)

The company issued this recall on January 12. It was shared through the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

Health Risks Associated with *Salmonella*

*Salmonella* is an organism that can cause serious illness. It may lead to fatal infections in vulnerable individuals. These include young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals might experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, *Salmonella* can enter the bloodstream. This can result in more severe illnesses. These include arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

No illnesses have been reported so far. However, consumers should still take precautions. This recall is a proactive measure to ensure public safety.

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers who purchased any of the recalled cottage cheese products should not eat them. Instead, they should return the items to the place of purchase. A full refund will be provided. For further information or questions, customers can contact Fresh Food Concepts directly. Their consumer hotlines are available Monday through Friday. Call 800-488-0387 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

This recall highlights the importance of food safety. Companies frequently monitor their products. They work to ensure the health and well-being of their customers. Always check recall notices from official sources like the FDA. This helps stay informed about potentially unsafe products.
