Twin Brothers Allege Injuries on Universal Orlando’s Harry Potter Ride, File Lawsuit
Two brothers have filed a lawsuit against Universal Orlando Resort. They claim to have suffered significant injuries on the theme park’s popular ‘Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure’ ride. The incident allegedly occurred shortly after the ride opened in June 2019.
The lawsuit targets Universal Studios, Universal Orlando Resort, and parent company NBCUniversal Media. It alleges negligence, failure to warn, and design defects.
Alleged Injuries and Incident Details
The plaintiffs are twin brothers, now 21 years old. They visited Universal’s Islands of Adventure park. One brother, who has cerebral palsy, rode in the sidecar. His brother rode the motorcycle seat.
According to court documents, the ride vehicle “violently jostled” the brothers. They claim it “thrash[ed] them around.” This happened during sharp turns and quick stops.
The lawsuit alleges the ride’s restraint system was insufficient. It failed to protect the brothers from harm. Consequently, both sustained serious injuries.
One brother reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury and concussion. He also experienced whiplash, neck trauma, and back trauma. His twin brother also claims to have sustained a concussion and whiplash.
Universal’s Stance and Prior Incidents
Universal Orlando has responded to previous injury claims. A spokesperson stated that guest safety is their top priority. They noted all rides feature clear warnings and follow strict safety guidelines. However, Universal typically does not comment on ongoing litigation.
This is not the first reported incident on the ‘Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure’ ride. Since its debut, several guests have reported injuries. These include a man who sued in 2019 for a brain injury. Another man filed a lawsuit for a foot injury that same year.
In addition, a 2020 report documented other minor injuries. These included rib pain and chest pain. The ride has also faced frequent operational breakdowns.
Lawsuit’s Claims and Future Impact
The brothers’ lawsuit argues that Universal knew about the ride’s dangers. It claims the company failed to address these known risks. Furthermore, it asserts Universal did not adequately warn riders about potential injury risks.
The legal action seeks compensation for medical expenses and pain and suffering. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding theme park safety. It could influence future ride design and warning protocols. Meanwhile, Universal Orlando continues to operate the popular attraction.
The outcome of this lawsuit remains to be seen. It will likely draw attention to safety standards in the theme park industry.
