Nicole Pucciarelli Steps Up as Fredonia State’s New Head Softball Coach
Fredonia, NY – Nicole Pucciarelli has been appointed the new head coach for the Fredonia State Blue Devils softball team. The announcement came on Friday, February 13th. Pucciarelli previously served as an assistant coach for the NCAA Division III program.
She steps into the role following the resignation of long-time coach Kevin Beers. Beers led the Blue Devils for 16 seasons. Pucciarelli brings a wealth of experience and local connections to the team.
A Familiar Face Takes the Helm
Pucciarelli is no stranger to the Fredonia State athletic community. She joined the Blue Devils’ coaching staff in the fall of 2022. During her time as an assistant, she contributed significantly to the team’s operations. Her efforts covered all aspects of the program. This included on-field training and player development.
Athletic Director Eileen Graham expressed confidence in the new hire. Graham noted Pucciarelli’s strong ties to the university. She also highlighted Pucciarelli’s extensive coaching background. “Nicole brings a depth of experience and true Blue Devil roots,” Graham stated. “She is the ideal person to lead our softball program.”
Deep Roots in Western New York Softball
Pucciarelli’s connection to the region runs deep. She graduated from Fredonia High School. There, she excelled as a multi-sport athlete. Her collegiate playing career took her to Mercyhurst University. She played four seasons of Division II softball. Pucciarelli earned multiple academic honors during her time at Mercyhurst.
Furthermore, her family has strong ties to Fredonia State. Her sister, Jess Pucciarelli, also played softball for the Blue Devils. This personal connection provides her with unique insight into the program’s culture. Nicole Pucciarelli holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership. She received it from Mercyhurst University.
Coaching Experience Beyond College
Before joining Fredonia State, Pucciarelli gained valuable coaching experience. She served as an assistant varsity coach at Fredonia High School. She also coached at the modified level. This diverse experience has prepared her for this leadership role. Currently, she teaches health and physical education. Her teaching position is at Fredonia Middle School.
Looking Back at Coach Beers’ Legacy
Kevin Beers left a notable legacy during his tenure. He coached the Blue Devils for 16 seasons. Under his leadership, Fredonia State made five appearances in the SUNYAC Tournament. The team also achieved over 30 wins in two separate seasons. His contributions helped shape the program significantly over the years.
